After a nearly twenty-year break, the original lineup of Béla Fleck & the Flecktones has come back together with a new album, Rocket Science, and a tour that kicked off May 31 in Chillicothe, Illinois. The lineup of banjoist Béla Fleck, bassist Victor Wooten, percussionist/Drumitar player Roy “Futureman” Wooten, and pianist/harmonica player Howard Levy are promising a tour full of music that combines genres, influences, and styles for a unique concert experience.
Now that the group’s back together, the band is hitting the road in a big way, crisscrossing the U. S. and Canada until mid-November. I’m lucky enough to be headed off to see The Flecktones on the third night of their tour (tonight, June, 1), at the Musikfest Cafe at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA, but the way the group is touring, they’re probably coming to a town near you soon. If you’re curious about all the Béla Fleck buzz (like I was) or want to see the man who is arguably the premier banjo player in the world—and the talented musicians he plays and innovates with—live, check out their tour schedule below and see when they’re playing near you.
