This morning we read at The Huffington Post that Alec Baldwin is rumored to be considering a 2013 run for Mayor of New York City. Apparently political aspirations are nothing new for Baldwin. A friend of the 30 Rock star told The Daily that he is taking those aspirations more seriously now that Representative Anthony Weiner is, shall we say, very unlikely to pursue his own long-held aspirations toward the mayorship. Reports from an anonymous “friend” do not a campaign announcement make, but Baldwin’s May 27th Twitter debut commenced a flurry of policy positions and very politically-focused statements.
We also want to point out that it appears that HuffPo is reporting Baldwin’s Twitter account as the unverified @alec_baldwin. This confuses us, because what they dated and quoted as his first tweet is from @alecbaldwin, which is a verified account. Baldwin probably started out using the underscore and switched to his current username after the fact, leaving lots of uncorrected links in his wake.
We don’t see any updates or corrections from HuffPo, The Hollywood Reporter or the others who first reported on his jump to Twitter, so you heard it here first: follow the real Alec Baldwin on Twitter at @alecbaldwin!
