The Hamptons—that exotic New York locale best known for white parties, vacationing “Real Housewives,” and yachts—is getting its own music, arts, and live (interactive) arts festival. Actually, to be more accurate, Escape to New York, the new American brain-child from the creator of the Secret Garden Party UK, will be held on the grounds of the Shinnecock Reservation adjacent to Southampton, August 5th–August 7th.

True to the ritzy reputation of the popular destination, however, more plush accommodations will be available than just traditional camp sites. “Glamping” sites complete with luxurious safari tents, tepees, and bell boys are available for reservation. Of course, if you’d rather pitch your REI-purchased tent in standard Bonnaroo/Coachella fashion, that’s still an option as well.

Escape to New York already had a strong Friday/Saturday line-up in place (may we just emphasize the presence of the legendary Patti Smith), but just this week they’ve added to that by confirming Sunday’s acts as well.

Friday, August 5th

Headlining: PATTI SMITH

Supporting: Best Coast, Chairlift, Lissy Trullie, The Postelles, The Static Jacks

Saturday, August 6th

Headlining: EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS

Supporting: The Vaccines, The Psychedelic Furs, White Rabbits, Au Revoir Simone, The Submarines, Graffiti 6

Sunday, August 7th

Headlining: OF MONTREAL

Supporting: The Jolly Boys, Mates of State, Reptar, Tiger Love, Savoir Adore

Meanwhile, there’s still more to come. The festival also has an acoustic stage, guest DJs (a special “Master of Tickets” link can be found on their website where would-be DJs should click to win the chance to play their own set), art installations, theater performances, special food and drink experiences, and more planned that are yet to be announced. Escape to New York promises to be new kind of festival experience—one that hits all artistic bases, perfect for those adventurous types admiring of innovation that just want to get away from it all and absorb everything.

Single Day tickets are listed at $106, and Weekend Passes $289. Parking, Camping, and Glamping reservations are also available through the Escape to New York website.

About Allison Krumm

During the day Allison serves as the Digital Marketing and Social Media Manager at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts. At night she quite likes judging things that play in darkened theaters and cinemas, taking photos of live arts events, and attending elaborately themed costume parties cooked up with various co-conspirators. Allison has two almost (but not quite) completely useless film degrees that have taught her everything she knows about weaving tall tales. She aspires to one day be half as awesome as Patti Smith and cares not a whit about split infinitives. |
